This year's calendar of the "Museo Cantonale D'Arte" includes - as wella s the exhibition "Carlo Cotti e la sua cittą" (15th February - 11th May) and a review of the modern art scene in Ticino (8th June- 31st August) - a grand exhibition entitled "Dal mito al progetto. La cultura architettonica dei maestri italiani e ticinesi nella Russia neoclassica". The exhibition, which can be visited from 5th October 2003 to 11th Janauray 2004, documents not only the architectural contributions of leading figures of the Italian neo-classical school, such as Giacomo Quarenghi, but also of the numerous Ticin architects who, at the same time, helped to create a monumental aspect of Russian cities. These artists inculeded Domenico Gilardi, Luigi Rusca and Carlo Rossi, whose General Staff Palace an Ministries of the Finances and Foreign Affairs, in St. Petersburg, constitute one of eht most extraordinary examples of neo-classical urban architecture. In collaboration with important Russian institutions, such as the Hermitage Museum, a huge number of paintings, sketchses, and plans relating to important Russina monuments of that period, have been gathered together. Many of them will be on show to the public for the first time. After Lugano, the exhibition will move to the prestigious rooms of the hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg.
